I thought I’d take a break from writing about social media and list some of the things that I’ve found quite interesting in the last few weeks. Use ‘em, don’t use ‘em, here we go:

1. Kindle Singles
This is every aspiring authors dream. Amazon are accepting submissions to their Kindle store in the form of Kindle Singles. A Kindle Single is a piece of writing, between 5,000 and 30,000 words that expresses an idea or story. Amazon checks all submissions and will revert within two weeks with next steps. It’s inspired to me to start writing my first great short story. Maybe.

2. #Kony2012

There’s a lot of hype around this viral video and to be honest, I haven’t watched it *hangs head in shame*. I have been following the tweets and the blog posts around it though. So, the short story is that there is an evil man named Joseph Kony who puts the infant back into infantry. He goes around burning villages and stealing the children for his army. Some goody-goody people (Invisible Children) created a viral video to raise awareness and funds.  Depending who you believe, Joseph Kony is Satan, Hitler or a Saint. Depending on who you believe, Invisible Children is Satan, Hitler or a Saint. It’s all very confusing. Anyway, you can start your research by watching the video (74 million views at time of writing) and then reading this. Good luck!

3. Mass Effect 3

Electronic Arts just released the third in Bioware’s epic trilogy, Mass Effect. I’ve never been terribly interested by these sweeping space operas, but I thought I’d give Mass Effect 3 a chance. I have to admit, it is pretty epic. It’s a full on interactive movie with some excellent conversation and action pieces. If you’re looking for Star Trek but with tons of violence and a no-nonsense hero, Mass Effect 3 is for you.
